  14. XT GateKeeper allows you to select the XTensions you would like to be active during the session of QuarkXPress and to disable the XTensions you don't want to use.

  16. The XT GateKeeper dialog will appear upon starting up QuarkXPress and will display a list of all the currently available XTensions (obtained from the QuarkXPress folder, or for from the XTension folder for QuarkXPress 3.3).

  18. At this time you can command- or shift-click to select or deselect the desired XTensions.

  20. You can also choose "Save Set..." and enter a name for the desired group. Thereafter, you can select the new menu item which will effectively select its original group. Any set except the "Default" set can be deleted by selecting the menu item while holding down the shift key.

  22. The XT GateKeeper dialog can be prevented from appearing by unchecking the "Show at Startup" checkbox. Note that you can also "toggle" the dialog to appear or not appear by holding down the control key at about the time the XT GateKeeper splash icon dissolves.

  24. Checking the "Select New XTs" checkbox will select any new XTensions you may have placed in the QuarkXPress folder prior to the session. Uncheck this box to avoid adding new XTensions to all sets. Note that new XTensions will always be selected in the "Default" set.

You may also elect to exit QuarkXPress at this time by clicking the "Quit XPress" button. Also, you can quit QuarkXPress as soon as possible after starting up when pressing control-option-command-period. You can press these keys just once as QuarkXPress is being launched, or about the time the splash screen first appears.

Technical Note: For XT GateKeeper to be the most effective it needs to be loaded by QuarkXPress before all other XTensions and for this reason its filename begins with a space and for QuarkXPress 3.3 you should always place XT GateKeeper in the XTension folder. Whenever there is a loading sequence violation you will receive a warning dialog informing you of the situation. Is it not serious, but you should handle this prior to your next session. (Note that some demo XTensions will always load before XT GateKeeper in which case you can usually ignore the warning).
